Catecholamines and Heart Disease - CRC Press Book. A concise, in-depth analysis of the status of the sympathetic system in heart diseasesThis book summarizes the functional status of the sympathetic neural system in cardiological diseased states and highlights aspects of sympathetic neural activity that are important to an overall understanding. PharmRev articles become freely available 12 months after publication, and remain freely available for 5 years. catecholamines comprise important neurotransmitters and hormones, of which the main ones are dopamine, noradrenaline (norepinephrine), and adrenaline (epinephrine). Other catecholamines occur in trace amounts in the body, and synthetic catecholamines are available; for example isoprenaline (isoproterenol) was previously employed for the relief of asthma, while α-methylDOPA reduces blood . Chapters cover such topics as cellular dynamics of catecholamine release and re-uptake, catecholamines in mood regulation and imaging catecholamine transporters. With a variety of chapters and the best authors in the field, the volume is an essential resource for pharmacologists, immunologists and biochemists alike. In our study, medication-free subjects with fully remitted major depression underwent a paradigm of catecholamine depletion, via use of the tyrosine hydroxylase inhibitor alpha-methylparatyrosine. METHOD: Subjects underwent 2 sets of testing conditions in a double-blind, random-ordered, crossover design, approximately 1 week apart.
